Brewing

The timer kept running while my phone was locked. Is that right?

Yes. The countdown is worked out from the time the brew started, not from a counter ticking in the background, so locking the screen, switching apps or a phone restart do not change the result. The screen stays awake while a brew is running.

My cold brew needs sixteen hours. Do I leave the app open?

No. Steps longer than half an hour show the time the brew will be ready instead of a countdown, and the brew is saved on the device. Close the app, come back in the morning, and it will still be there.

The step says “to 150 g”. Where is that measured?

On the scale, cumulatively — total water poured since the start of the brew, not the amount for that step alone. If you are brewing without a scale, follow the timings and pour by eye.

Can I change the dose?

Yes, on the recipe screen. Water and every step target rescale with it. Timings do not change, because they are set by the brewer rather than by the amount of coffee.

Coffee shelf

Why does my bag say “fading”?

Filter coffee tastes best roughly between day 7 and day 21 after roasting. Before that it is still releasing gas; well after it, the aromatics have gone. The app counts from the roast date you entered.

Grams are disappearing from my bag.

That is deliberate: the dose of each brew is subtracted from the active bag, so the shelf stays accurate without you doing arithmetic.

Caffeine

How is the milligram figure calculated?

From the dose and the brewing method — long immersions extract more per gram than short espresso-style contact. The figures are approximations for orientation, good to within a rough margin, and they are not medical advice. If caffeine matters to you clinically, talk to a doctor rather than to an app.

Data and privacy

Where is my journal stored?

On your iPhone. There is no account and no server copy. See the privacy policy for the detail.

How do I delete everything?

Delete the app. Individual bags and brews can be removed inside it at any time.

Still stuck

Send a note to [email protected]. Tell us the iPhone model, the iOS version, the recipe you were brewing and what happened — that is usually enough to work it out on the first reply.
